[the United Kingdom=globalnewsagency]Queen Elizabeth II, who was loved and respected throughout her 70-year reign, passed away two weeks ago. She was arguably the most loved monarch in British history. Hence, the mourning continues in Edinburgh, Scotland.

On the 8th of September, the Queen passed away at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This is where the Queen usually spent her long summer vacation with her husband, Prince Philip. The love story between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip is famous; so famous that some speculated that the queen could not overcome loneliness and sadness of spending her summer vacation alone at Balmoral Castle.

After the Queen's death, her coffin was moved from Balmoral Castle to Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh for two days and then was moved again to St. Giles’ Cathedral on the third day. On the 19th of September, the Queen was put to final rest at Westminster Abbey in London, England next to her husband, Prince Philip who died in April the previous year.

Here in Scotland, shopping malls were closed during funerals, and there are still a few places where memorial events are being held.

Scottish citizens pay tribute to the funeral video. Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh which is seen in the back was where the queen's coffin was enshrined.

After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles has ascended to the throne. The attention is now focused on how the monarchy, which retains its symbolic meaning of “reigning but not ruling”, will lead in this era of the new King.
